  • Overall men: Perez Muhwezi – 41 points
  • Overall ladies: Rose Azuba – 37 points (countback)
  • Gross men: Joseph Cwinya-ai – 75, 70, 74 (219)
  • Gross ladies: Peace Kabasweka – 76, 74, 74 (224)
  • Professionals: Ronald Rugumayo – 72, 67, 70 (209)

The 2024 Absa captain’s bell golf tournament was officially climaxed on Saturday, 18th May at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kampala.

Perez Muhwezi and Rose Azuba emerged as the overall winners for the men and ladies categories respectively.

Muhwezi scored 41 stableford points whilst Azuba had 37 points to win on countback.

At least over 230 golfers took part in the tournament that officially ushered in Paul Charles Rukundo as the new captain of the Uganda Golf Club.

Rukundo took over from Emmanuel Wamala whose tenure came to end.

Other top performers:

Joseph Cwinya-ai won the gross category (men) with 75, 70, 74 (219) whilst Peace Kabasweka took the female top honour in the same category after scoring 76, 74, 74 (224).

The outstanding professional was Ronald Rugumayo having finished with 7-under score off 54 holes.

Rugumayo amassed a total of 209 gross, played in three days 72, 67 and 70 to pocket home the biggest share of the Ug.Shs 20,000,000 kitty for the paid ranks players.

Side-bets:

Ann Abeja and Hillary Bamulinde won the ladies and men respective nearest to the pin contest.

Sarah Nduhukire came top in the female longest drive competition with Ibrahim Bagalana toppling the men.

Hon. Peter Ogwang, the state minister of sports was chief guest during the official prize giving ceremony on the terraces of Uganda Golf Club.

Hon. Ogwang promised to support in the promotion of golf in the country, particularily with the infrastructural development for the game.

“Government of Uganda is ear-marked to sponsor the development of the infrastructure for golf with effect from next financial year with 2.5 billion.” Hon Ogwang remarked.
