Lugazi Football Club humbled visiting Young Elephants 4-1 during a betPawa Big League contest at the Lugazi stadium in Mabira Forest on Sunday 19th May 2024.

Red-hot forward Ronald Ssempala starred with a hat-trick to his name whilst Samuel Ssemugugu netted the other goal.

Ssempala’s goals arrived via varying fashion in the 4th, 40th and 55th minutes.

With nine minutes to climax the duel, Ssemugugu capped the icing on the already baked cake with the fourth goal.

Lugazi FC has now fetched 47 points from 25 matches and only need a point from their remaining two matches to be sure of qualification.

Meanwhile, Police Football Club overcame a goal deficit in their 2-1 win over Onduparaka at Kavumba Recreational Stadium.

The victory assured Police’s return to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after two seasons in the murky waters of the betPawa Big League.

Police fell to Jaffar Kerepi’s goal in the opening minutes of the game as the Catarpillars took the lead.

Denis Kalanzi and Steven Kabuye later replied for the 2005 Uganda Premier League champions.

This victory was the 14th for the Cops from 25 matches played thus far, securing their 50th point of the season, a guarantee that they can not miss the top three positions.

Elsewhere, Kaaro Karungi humbled visiting JInja North United 5-1 at St George’s Arena.

Mbale Heroes cemented their third place position with a narrow 1-0 win over Kyetume at the Mbale City stadium.

Booma dented Kataka’s qualification chances with a 1-0 win at the Masindi Municipal stadium.

The contest between Calvary and Kiyinda Boys ended goalless at the Midigo playground in Yumbe district, West Nile region.

Three clubs will earn direct promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the 2024-2025 season whilst four clubs will be demoted to the respective regional leagues.

Ndejje University was confirmed relegated after they pulled out of the league at the half-way mark.

Jinja North United (18), Young Elephants (19) and Kyetume (24) are in the red zone, desperately seeking for survival from the sinking boat.

Calvary (29) needs two points from the remaining two matches to be safe.
