The CAF African schools championship project was initiated by Dr. Patrice Motsepe (current CAF President) in 2022 with main objective of developing organised football at school level on the continent for boys and girls.

Kawempe Muslim Secondary school finished third to take bronze at the 2024 CAF African schools football championships in Zanizibar.

This achievement was also rewarded with a cash kitty worth USD150,000 (at least Ugx570,000,000).

Coached by Ayub Khalifan Kiyingi, Kawempe Muslim won the bronze medal match 1-0 over Tanzania’s Fountain Gate school.

Cynthia Kirenga scored the all important goal during the third place play-off match.

Kawempe Muslim had fallen 0-1 to Morocco during the semi-final duel.

The final witnessed Morocco lose 5-4 in post match penalties to champions South Africa after normal time had ended 1-goal apiece.

South Africa earned gold medals, a trophy and $ 300,000. Morocco took silver and $ 200,000.

CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe witnessed the climax of the championship.

The Kawempe Muslim SS team delegation is expected to return home on the afternoon of Monday, 27th May 2024 aboard Uganda Airlines.
