Shadia Nabirye turned up for the Fortebet real stars May 2024 awards rewarding ceremony at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo in a Kawempe Muslim SS school uniform.
With the trade-mark veil on her head, she was accompanied by the football team head coach Ayub Khalifan Kiyingi.
Nabirye won the football accolade that also comes with a plaque and cash worth Ug.Shs 500,000; edging Vipers’ captain Milton Karisa and Busoga United’s Emmanuel Ajo.
“This is humbling” Nabirye who helped Kawempe Muslim take bronze at the 2024 CAF Pan African football tournament in Zanzibar stated.
The bronze medal also earned Kawempe Muslim women football team a cash prize worthy $ 150,000.
“I thank the organizers, my coaches and teammates for this award” the senior three student added.
Meanwhile, Daniel Malcom Okello, a rugby player with Platinum Credit Heathens won the top accolade in rugby.
Okello beat off stiff competition from Emily Lekuru and Ivan Magomu.
In netball, National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball club player Fildausi Namulema won award.
Namulema, a center-cum-winger attacker was part of the NIC team that won the 2024 East African netball championship in Dar-es-salaam city, Tanzania.
At the same tournament, she was also named the most valuable player (MVP).
She beat teammate Rachael Nanyonga and Prisons’ Christine Namulumba.
“I am happy for this award. It took determination and teamwork to win the championship in Tanzania” Namulema stated.
Namulema featured in all NIC’s eight games at the championship played on round-robin format where she was influential.
NIC won their 22nd title in the history of this championship.
The awards were handed over by Real Stars Sports Agency executive director Isaac Mukasa and the sponsors’ representatives from Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions.
