Coach Tolbert Onyango hopes that following Philip Wokorach’s move to RC Orléans, more Ugandan rugby players will be spotted by clubs outside Uganda.
“Obviously, that’s good news for him and we are hoping that will open up ways for the rest of the players. Uganda has got rugby ball players, hopefully one or two will find their way around the world because of his exploits and being a good ambassador of the sport,” Onyango said to Kawowo Sports during the ongoing 2024 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s in Mauritius.
Wokorach scored three tries and converted eleven penalties in the first round of the tournament before departing for France. He was replaced by utility player Timothy Mugisha.
Onyango was delighted with the confirmation of news that Wokorach had penned a two-year deal with the French club. He has coached the generational talent from his teen-age and has had a front seat to witness his career growth into the thirties.

Wokorach is one of the few Ugandan rugby players who have charted a career away from home. He played for Kabras in Kenya before moving to Bourges and A.S.B.C Vaucluse in France.
