As the Royal King of Kingdom Kingdom His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II comes close to the 31st Coronation anniversary, a number of activities have been lined up.

The annual Buganda Coronation anniversary golf tournament is one of the sporting events held to that cause.

Individuals and a number of corporate organizations as Crown Beverages (Pepsi), Absa Bank, Case Medicare, Equity Bank, Santa Maria Hotel, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, KCB Bank, Jesa Farm, Soliton Telmec, Pinnace Security and White Cap Crisp all took part.

The week-long championship was held at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante in Kampala, commencing with the caddies, the gross (whose points counted for the world amateur ranking system) and the main championship on Saturday, 27th July 2024.

Prince (Omulangira) Crispin Jjunju Kiwewa officiated at the main opening of the tourney with a ceremonial tee-off on hole number one.

On the tee-box, he was flanked by the Speaker of Buganda Parliament (Lukiiko) Owek. Luwagga Mugumbule (also the patron of Buganda Golfers Association), Uganda Golf Club club captain Charles Paul Rukundo, Sam Mubiru Lugonvu (captain of Buganda Golfers Association) and the club manager, David Ssekitoleko, among others.

Omulangira Jjunju also reserved a special moment to motivate the caddies who execute a great deal of work for the golfers.

After grueling 18 holes’ action, there was a dinner before the award presentation ceremony with the chief guest Owek. Coltida Nakate (Buganda Kingdom minister of Education) in attendance.

Arthur Gwaku and Tooro club-based Lillian Koowe were the male and female overall winners with 42 and 38 stable-ford points respectively.

National team golfers Joseph Cwinya-ai and Judith Komugisha won the gross section.

Cwinya-ai posted 211 gross in 54-holes action with 5-under-67 on the opening round, 4-under 68 for two round and ended with 4-over 76 during the final round.

On the other hand, Komugisha returned 75, 75 and 74 for a combined gross mark of 224, to beat off her closest challenger, Peace Kabasweka.

The caddies open which happened earlier in the week attracted 80 players with 29-year-old Bruce Gumushabe (78) and the 27-year-old Robinah Angom (87) coming top.

Corporates:

Absa Bank One consisting of David Wandera and Phillip Walera amassed a total team score of 72 to win the category.

Case Medical Services two (David Ssekitoleko and Gilbert Asiimwe) followed suit with 68.

Pepsi (George Egaddu and Sam Byagagaire) fetched 65 points to finish as the third placed team.
