Morocco and Egypt progressed to the semi-finals of men’s football at the on-going Paris 2024 Olympics in France.
The two North African countries join hosts France and Spain as the other semi-finalists.
Morocco humbled United States of America (USA) 4-0 at the Parc des Princes stadium in a game officiate by Argentina’s Yael Falcon Perez.
Soufiane Rahimi, Illias Akhomach, Achraf Hakimi and Mehdi Maouhoub scored the goals for Morocco.
Egypt edged Paraguay 5-4 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended 1-all at Stade Orange Velodrome before 23,753 spectators.
Diego Gomez put Paraguay ahead on the 71st minute. Egypt equalized through Ibrahim Adel in the 88th minute to push the game into the decisive penalties.
Ahmed Nabil Koka, Mohamed Elneny, Karim El Debes, Hossam Abdelmaguid and Ibrahim Adel scored for Egypt in the tense penalties.
Diego Gomez, Wilder Viera, Marcos Gomez and Fabian Balbuena scored for Paraguay whilst Marcelo Perez’s kick was saved.
The game was officiated by Glenn Nyberg from Sweden.
Meanwhile, Spain defeated Japan 3-0 at the Groupama stadium.
Fermin Lopez scored a brace and Abel Ruiz added the other during a contest handled by Mauritanian referee Beida Dahane.
A 10-man France edged 1-0 past South Americans Argentina at the Matmut Atlantique stadium before 37,153 spectators.
Jean Philippe Mateta scored for France as early as the 5th minute.
France was reduced to 10 men when referee Ilgiz Tantashev from Uzbekistan sent off Enzo Millot deep in extra time.
