Uganda will host the first leg of the 2024 Elgon Cup on November 2 and the second leg will be played the following weekend on November 9 in Nairobi.
Elgon Cup 2024 Dates & Fixtures:
- November 2: Uganda vs Kenya
- November 9: Kenya vs Uganda
Both men’s and women’s national teams of the two rival countries will participate in the tournament.
The dates were first announced by Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) President Sasha Mutai on Wednesday morning at a press conference in Nairobi. Uganda Rugby Union (URU) confirmed the fixtures later in the night.
This is the second year in which the tournament will be played in the October-November (Autumn) international test window.
The 2023 Elgon Cup was played alongside the Victoria Cup in Kampala and Kisumu. Both Kenya teams, Simbas and Lionesses, emerged victorious against Uganda’s Rugby Cranes and Lady Rugby Cranes.
The Rugby Cranes won the first leg at Kings Park by 21-20 points but lost the second at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium Mamboleo by 20-13.
The Lady Rugby Cranes played only one leg in Kisumu. They suffered a humiliating 87-03 record defeat.
During the same October-November international test window, Uganda will also host Tunisia in the second installment of the bilateral series.
