Uganda U-20 players celebrate against Ethiopia

Uganda’s national U-20 team (Hippos) overcame Ethiopia 3-0 in the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Cecafa Qualifiers) during a Group B contest on Monday, October 7 at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Godfrey Sekibengo and Swabir Mpasa were on target for Uganda, the tournament’s reigning champions, while Biniyam Babulo scored an own goal.

Sekibengo, a midfielder at Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club and Bukedea Comprehensive School, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Mpasa of Bul Football Club doubled the scoring towards the end of the first half as the opening stanza ended 2-0.

Second-half substitute Kisolo forced a heavy deflection off Babulo to score in his own net as Uganda wrapped the scoring business on the stroke of full time.

Besides Ethiopia, Burundi and South Sudan are in Pool B.

Uganda Hippos will return to action on Wednesday, 9th October 2024 against Burundi at the KMC Stadium.

Burundi edged South Sudan 1-0 in Monday’s other contest.

Christophe Ndayikengurukiye’s 8th-minute goal was the match-winner for Burundi.
