In an exciting milestone for Uganda’s growing cubing community, the Rubik’s Cubing Association (RCA), in partnership with Prota Cubing Club, proudly announces the country’s first-ever World Cubing Association (WCA) accredited competition.

The event will take place on Saturday, 1st February 2025 at the National ICT Innovation Hub Auditorium in Kampala.

This historic event is a major step forward in positioning Uganda as a regional leader in the intellectual sport of speed-cubing, which promotes creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Participants will have the opportunity to secure WCA numbers, gain global rankings, and compete for qualification in the 2026 Africa Cubing Championship.

Today marks a significant milestone for Uganda as we officially introduce the Rubik’s Cubing Association Uganda to the nation and the world. The RCA was founded with a vision to foster intellectual growth, creativity, and problem-solving skills among Ugandans through the art and sport of speedcubing. Our mission is to build a vibrant community where enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds can come together, learn, compete, and celebrate the beauty of puzzles.

The competition will feature five official events; 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, Pyramix and Skewb.

 Among the competitors will be Ethan Kigundu, Uganda’s current national record holder in speedcubing, who is set to defend his title. Winners from the Prota Cubing Tournament will also be present to showcase their skills.

Grace Kigundu, Vice President of RCA, highlighted the global recognition this event brings: “This competition is a game-changer for cubing in Uganda. By creating school-based clubs, supporting coaching programs, and hosting tournaments, we aim to establish Uganda as a hub for competitive cubing in East Africa. We are honored to have Mr. Rayan Pamar, a delegate from the World Cubing Association, in attendance to oversee the event. Additionally, this competition is listed as an official event on the WCA website, further solidifying Uganda’s place on the global cubing stage.”

The first ever Rubik Cubing competition in Uganda held on 2nd November 2024 at North Green School, Kampala.

Cubing is Competitors of all ages are welcome for this event alongside educators, families, spectators eager to witness this fastest growing intellectual sport of speed cubing.

Prizes:

The winners will receive trophies and recognition along with the opportunity to represent Uganda in future international competitions.

Globally, Speed-cubing competitions are held under the World Cube Association (WCA).

The stars of the game include Max Park and Yi Heng Wang who have inspired millions of young cubers around the world to join the sport and test their skills.
