Edward Kirumira knew he was going to win the Two-wheel drive category even before he was on the start line.

The Lumala @60 Mama @90 birthday rally in Mbarara was the opener to the 2025 season.

Kirumira and co-driver Monica Birwinyo in a Toyota Corona meant business in the season-opening event with a commanding performance in the 2WD category.

The crew aimed for victory that even a mechanical problem in the penultimate stage did not take away their lead.

The Starbex-sponsored crew would go ahead to win the power stage to seal the victory.

“I won this rally from the garage. Unlike my past performance, this time round, I decided to start my rallies in the garage,” Kirumira excitedly told Kawowo Sports.

“I decided to upgrade my preparations. I prepared the car and gave it all that was required before the race. I had everything in place for the event. And that, made me feel the victory before even going to Mbarara,” he added.

Kirumira believes that the Mbarara rally victory is also a sign that he will win the 2WD title this year.

“Last year I got so close to the title but because of a few mistakes, it slipped me after the Jinja rally. But this year the title should be mine and the victory is one step to the title,” he said.

“The whole team including my sponsors Starbex Petroleum are working towards having me win the title, and that is what will happen,” he asserted.

In second place was Amir Kavuma who finished two minutes 29seconds behind Kirumira while Julius Ssemambo finished third.

The next NRC event is scheduled for April.
