Police FC scored a late equalizer to deny title-chasing NEC FC maximum points as the two teams faced off on Sunday at Kavumba Recreation Ground.
NEC FC had taken the lead in the first half through Cromwell Rwothomio but the Cops snatched a point with Emmanuel Mugume finding the equalizer.
The visitors had the first realistic chance of the game at the quarter hour mark but Police FC goalkeeper Edward Kasibante was able to pull off a double save.
In the 21st minute, NEC FC were awarded a penalty when Farouk Katongole held the ball in the area but Paul Mucureezi fired his effort from 18-yards wide.
On the other hand, Police had a glorious effort in the 36th minute but Gabriel Eragu failed to find the target when Reagan Male teed him up.
The breakthrough arrived at the stroke of halftime when Rwothomio raised high to head home Mucureezi’s cross.
In the second half both teams made changes with NEC FC handing Alpha Ssali his debut, replacing Ibrahim Kasinde. Emmanuel Ajo and Ibrahim Thembo also replaced Rwothomio and Mucureezi respectively.
On the other hand, Police FC introduced Reagan Male and Ivan Eyam for Gaddafi Kacancu and Gerald Ogweti respectively. Moments later, Emmanuel Mugume and Herman Wasswa also came on.
In the first minute of added time, Mugume tapped home from a rebound after goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo had saved Umar Kasumba’s header.
The result takes NEC FC temporarly top of the table on 37 points same as Vipers SC who play KCCA FC a few minutes later. Police on the other hand remain 12th on 19 points.
