Two first-half goals by Yunus Junior Sentamu and Allan Okello inspired Vipers to a resounding 2-0 win on the road against KCCA at the MTN Omondi stadium on Sunday, 16th February 2025.

The two goals arrived in a space of two minutes towards the half-hour mark, necessitating a disciplined, solid defence from the visitors to maintain the lead and attain maximum points.

Sentamu struck with a beautiful curl inside the goal area past goalkeeper Mugolofa after 28 minutes.

Two minutes later, Vipers’ captain on the day added the second with a simple finish after a defensive lapse to build a two-goal lead.

KCCA had a brilliant promising start with the first threat coming just after two minutes.

Ashraf Mugume poked the ball over the bar following a wall pass involving Saidi Mayanja.

On the break, Vipers won the first corner kick of the game with Abdul-Karim Watambala delivering a dangerous ball into the area although goalkeeper Mugolofa was fouled in the scuffle.

KCCA FC’s defensive wall played its rightful purpose with a block off Watambala’s free kick.

Mugume tested Vipers goalkeeper Mudekereza on the quarter-hour mark before the former was cautioned by FIFA Referee Dick Okello for a foul on Yunus.

Vipers missed an opportunity to take the lead when Watambala delivered a free-kick that Paul Patrick Mbowa met at the back post but defender Livingstone Mulondo missed the rebound from close range in the 26th minute.

Two minutes later, the visiting crowd went crazy when Sentamu beautifully curled home inside the goal area.

The joy doubled with skipper Okello’s simple finish past goalkeeper Mugolofa after a mistake by defender.

Okello declined to celebrate the goal by raising both his hands, a sign of respect for punishing his former club.

With five minutes to end the opening stanza; both sides called for changes.

KCCA defender Mustafa Mujjuzi was rested for Harunah Lukwago and midfielder Joel Sserunjogi came out for teenager Brian Ijala.

On the other hand, Sentamu, the first goal scorer, limped off for Kenneth Kimera.

Upon restart of the second half, KCCA made their third change with left-footed winger Nana Shafik Kwikiriza replacing Gatbel.

KCCA returned energized with a strategy to at least pull back a goal but Vipers remained disciplined.

The hosts once again made another change with Paul Derrick Nsibambi paving way for Sadat Happy Anaku towards the hour mark.

Kimera missed finding the back of the net with a well-hit half-volley that was saved by KCCA goalkeeper Mugolofa in the 67th minute.

With 20 minutes to play, Anaku curled a free-kick over the bar from 35 yards as KCCA remained soul-searching.

The final change for KCCA came in the 72nd minute when former Vipers midfielder Bright Anukani came on for Ashraf Mugume.

The Venoms called for a double change with 5 minutes left on the clock; Abdul-Karim Watambala coming off for Issa Bugembe and Moses Waiswa being replaced by Nigerian Abubakari Lawal.

Anaku and Mukundane were cautioned in the 88th and 90th minutes respectively for foul play in the final pieces of action on the evening.

The maximum points drive Vipers to 40 points with a three-point advantage adrift from second-placed NEC who was held to a one-all draw by Police at Kavumba.
