Despite starting the 2025 men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership with a shocking loss, KCB KOBs have developed a confident spring in their step.

They are now on a six-match winning streak; the latest of which was a bonus point victory against Plascon Mongers on Saturday afternoon in Entebbe.

KOBs convincingly beat Mongers, 40-17 (21-09 at halftime) in a physical encounter played at the narrow and short lakeside pitch.

The hosts opened the scoring and took a 06-00 lead within twenty-two minutes through Robin Odrua’s penalties. KOBs responded with Andrew Odhiambo’s try but Odrua kicked another penalty to make it 09-07 at the half-hour mark.

From that point, the visitors were in charge of proceedings. Ian Munyani and Josaiah Ssempeke scored a try apiece for KOBs to lead by 21-09 at halftime.

Then Richard Abigaba, Munyani and Pius Ogena widened the gap even further in the second half with Joseph Aredo kicking five conversions.

KOBs restricted Mongers, one of their bogey sides, to just a Lauren Kalule try and an Odrua penalty in the second half.

Coaches Timothy Mudoola (KOBs) and Brian Makalama (Mongers), both in their first seasons on the job, have had contrasting fortunes in the Premiership.

While Mudoola is eyeing top spot in the standings, Makalama is trying to avoid the relegation playoffs.

The result has kept Mudoola’s KOBs on the heel of leaders Hippos and Pirates in third place while Makalama’s Mongers are stuck in ninth.

In the other Premiership results, Buffaloes compounded Heathens’ misery in the Kyadondo Derby while Walukuba held on against Rhinos.
