Sommet Basketball Club has officially taken over Our Saviour’s slot in the National Basketball League (NBL).
The development was confirmed in an official statement released by Sommet Basketball Club on Wednesday, March 5.
“We are thrilled to announce that after successful discussions with Our Saviour Club,” the statement read, “Sommet Basketball Club will be stepping in to take their place in the National Basketball League starting this upcoming season.”
This move comes despite Sommet’s elimination by Uganda Martyrs University Flames in the 2024 FUFA Division One quarter-finals.
The acquisition marks the end of Our Saviour’s time in the NBL, as the club had been up for sale. Sommet has now successfully sealed the deal, securing their place in the top-tier league.
However, this transition presents a significant challenge for Sommet, as they will now compete at a higher level rather than in Division Two.
To meet the demands and standards of the National Basketball League, the club will need to strengthen its roster as well as the technical team.
In the statement, Sommet emphasized that this move aligns with their vision and commitment to growth.
