As the rest of the world is celebrating the International women’s day on 8th March, it is good news for the Uganda women basketball team, the Gazelles.
After qualifying for the 2025 AfroBasket finals in Cote D’Ivoire, the Gazelles were showered with praises from the press and darling fans.
These have been supplemented by cash worth Ug.Shs 5,000,000 from Post Bank Uganda and 400 cartons of water by Crown Beverages Limited.
The boost is a beautiful reward for representing the country in a positive light as well as flying the country’s flag high and setting the stage for recognition of local talent and sports at regional and global level.
As a way to celebrate this great achievement this Women’s Day, PostBank Uganda collaborated with CBL to give in kind support to activation’s that are conducted through the office of the women commissioner to recognize the team for the hard work and passion showcased on and off the basketball court.
The Gazelle’s representation had some players as Agatha Kamwada, Hope Akello, Shillah Lamunu, Bushira Namayanja and Maxine Anyango.
Namayanja and Anyango, both students at St Noa Girls School Zzana in S5 and S3 respectively were dressed in their school uniforms.

Sandra Againe, the Corporate Communications Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, emphasized the importance of hydration, especially in light of the recent heat wave with temperatures soaring up to 34 degrees, causing discomfort and the need to constantly take water.
This initiative with PostBank is timely, and through the Nivana Brand, CBL will donate 400 cartoons of water because hydration is crucial both during and after training sessions, and we hope this will help the team stay refreshed and energized as they prepare for the upcoming tournaments.

The Woman Commissioner under the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA), Racheal Ainematsiko Atuhairwe expressed her gratitude to PostBank Uganda and Crown Beverage Limited for the generous donations towards the activation’s that will be conducted this month to celebrate women in sport.
We are honored to receive these donations that have come in a time when the Gazelles are soon preparing for AfroBasket tournament, and as FUBA we believe if we join efforts with partners like PostBank, CBL, and all those we collaborate with, we are able to pave way for nurturing or grooming local talent and sports in the country, particularly women’s sports which are often sidelined.

Gazelle’s Deputy Captain, Agnes Hope Akello appreciated PostBank and CBL for celebrating the team.
This will inspire us to even soar to greater heights as we represent the country at the 2025 AfroBasket tournament in July this year and also looking forward to the support for the upcoming activations to not celebrate women but also celebrate all young girls and women who play different sports.

The Afro Basket championship is set to take place from 27th July to 03rd August 2025.
AfroBasket Women (formerly FIBA Africa Championship for Women) is the women’s basketball continental championship of Africa, played every two years organized by FIBA, the world governing body for basketball.
The tournament serves to qualify teams for participation in the FIBA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games which take place every four years.
