  • KIU 1-2 Kampala University

Kampala University secured a 2-1 victory over Kampala International University (KIU) in the University Football League at Yes Centre, Nsambya, on Tuesday.

The visitors took an early lead in the second minute when Joseph Kimera smartly headed the ball into the back of the net.

Gilbert Wanuume then doubled their advantage with a well-struck half-volley, sending the crowd to its feet.

KIU had an opportunity to pull one back in the 25th minute after Benjamin Nsubuga’s misplaced pass gifted possession to Patrick Sekandi, but he failed to capitalize on the defensive error.

Five minutes later, Sekandi turned provider, setting up Isaac Musasizi after skillfully getting past Nelson Muhwezi.

However, Kampala University goalkeeper Brian Ozelle reacted swiftly to palm away the final effort.

In the 35th minute, Wanuume nearly extended the visitors’ lead, but his attempt from a quick counterattack sailed inches over the crossbar.

The hosts eventually pulled one back in the 76th minute when Kenneth Mpima pounced on a defensive lapse to find the net.

KIU nearly equalized in the 82nd minute when Sekandi, set up by Muhwezi, unleashed a powerful low shot, but the effort was blocked.

With this victory, Kampala University secured a spot in the quarterfinals from Group D alongside Bugema University.

  1. As per the University league, the community should notice the difference between KU and KIU. No more need to explain this further as before
