  • Namibia 81/3
  • Namibia won by 7 wickets

Afternoon: Uganda v Nepal

  • Uganda 91/5

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls picked up their third win of the Women’s Day Cup to keep their chances of making the final alive.

Nepal nicked the hosts Uganda by one wicket in the first round but the hosts were able to avenge that loss despite not playing to their full potential.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first but was immediately pegged back after Janet Mbabazi and Proscovia Alako departed without troubling the scorers. Esther Ilukor (22) and Rita Musamali (38) dug deep and rescued the innings for Uganda who eventually finished on a below-par 91 in their 20 overs.

In response, Nepal lost wickets occasionally which derailed their run chase and eventually gave the hosts a comfortable 40-run win.

Youngster Irene Mutoni (3/10) and Immaculate Nakisuyi (3/10) were the standout bowlers with Sarah Akiteng, Janet Mbabazi and Consy Aweko giving them great back up.

The Victoria Pearls was an improved unit in the field, especially with the return of the reliable Kevin Awino behind the stumps.

The loss knocks Nepal out of contention for a place in the finals but creates a three-way battle with all the remaining teams tied on the same number of points and only separated by Net Run Rate.

Hong Kong China is in third place for now but the will play bottom-placed Nepal early morning and only need a win for them to progress while Namibia and Uganda will have to cancel out each other in the afternoon.

The final day of the group games will surely be very interesting in what has been a very close series so far.

The series which is a celebration of the ladies’ game will conclude on Sunday with the top 2 sides battling for the trophy while the bottom two play for placement.
