Victoria Sharks have had a start-stop season so far, ticking every result box possible and sitting mid-table in sixth. They have lost as many games (3) as their opponents today, and a bonus point win against Heathens could close that gap. But can they do it with their currently assembled squad?

With lots of talent at their display, one wonders why the Sharks have only managed to win half the games they have played in the top flight. Having registered a draw against the Toyota Buffaloes in their first Kyadondo Derby, the Sharks will once again play without their loanee players when they go for glory this afternoon.

The Invaluable Omissions

Are the Heathens missing the services of Steven Kalema, Emma Ochan and Alex Otim? Probably not. But do the Sharks need them today? Definitely yes. The trio, in addition to the powerhouse, Morgan Odoch, shall be missed today, as they fall on the not-so-pretty side of the transfer guidelines.

On the other hand, this is a third homecoming for Charles Uhuru, who’d prefer to better the result against another former Kyadondo employer.

Even without the services of Santos Senteza, who has since spread his wings to the south of the continent, the Heathens can still pull off a solid scrum performance.

Despite being new to the squad, Newton Mwebaze brings experience to the front row, against a seasoned scrummager like Saul Kivumbi. In addition to a decent pack, the Sharks shall have to contend with a backline that sees the return of Malcom Okello and Norbert Okeny.

The Sharks boast of a squad full of history and no chemistry, speaking to the nature in which they were hastily assembled. But once they gel, we are in for a treat. Even another top outing from Israel Makokha at flyhalf won’t be the difference as the resurgent Heathens will assert dominance on home turf.
