Overview:

In a 32-page ruling dated February 25, 2025, Vipers were found guilty by CAS of breaching the contract of the tactician who was hired by the club on January 3rd, 2023 and then dismissed on March 8, 2023 less than three months into his one and half year contract.

The Court for Arbitration of Sports (CAS) has order Uganda Premier league reigning table leaders Vipers to pay their former coach Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliser $ 84,000 [Eighty-Four Thousand US Dollars] for breach of contract.

The Venoms also have to reimburse Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliser for the flight ticket in the amount of EUR 1,250.

Bianchi who was earning $ 6000 as salary as per the contract was then compensated by Vipers with a two-months pay worth $ 12000 but the Brazilian was never satisfied by the grounds on which the club based to axe him.

He filed a case with FIFA’s Football Tribunal (or the “Players’ Status Chamber”) for breach of Contract without just cause on March 24, 2023 in which he wanted the club to pay him $ 9,000 as compensation and corresponding to the residual value of his contract, Euros 1,250 for the return air ticket to Spain and $ 18,000 as compensation for bad faith, moral damages and specificity of sports.

However, FIFA ruled in favour of Vipers on May 23, 2023 prompting the tactician through his lawyer to forward the case to CAS which he did on June 23, 2023.

The hearing of the case started on July 8, 2024 through video conference with Vipers represented by club President Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, club CEO Simon Peter Njuba and Alex Luganda, the club’s legal director.

In the ruling, Vipers were found guilty of prematurely ending the coach’s coach with just cause and the appealed decision by Fifa Player status chamber on May 23 set aside.
