Arsenal Football Club’s star boy Bukayo Saka returned to action this week after a lengthy injury. Saka marked his return with a goal off the bench in the 2-1 win over Fulham.
Saka’s scoring return has caused many to ponder where Arsenal would be in the Premier League title race had he not been out injured for three and a half months. For most of the Arsenal fans and supporters, the gap would not be 12 points from the leaders, Liverpool, on the home straight.
That belief is not just hinged on the fact that Saka is a superstar, but producing 23 direct goal involvements in his 25 appearances across all competitions this season only means that he is important to Arsenal as, say, Mohamed Salah is to Liverpool. But that is not saying the two stars are at the same level, the Egyptian is obviously ahead.
Before tearing his hamstring against Crystal Palace last December, Saka was playing with real swagger, physically stronger and carrying the ball with authority. No surprise that at the time of his injury, Saka had direct involvement in 40 per cent of Arsenal’s goals.
Clearly, Saka is Arsenal’s main goal threat, having developed a ruthless edge when cutting inside off the right flank. He is also their main creator who consistently provides a stream of goal-scoring opportunities from both open play and set-piece situations.
So, is Saka’s return a fix-all solution to Arsenal’s issues this season? Well, maybe not but it probably can to rescue their title challenge which Showmax Premier League brings to the palm of your hand.
