Matia Lule got off to a winning start as Police FC new head coach, overcoming Mbarara City FC 2-0 in Kavumba.
Lule was last week appointed the new head coach of the Cops, replacing Simon Peter Mugerwa who was fired after losing to Soltilo Bright Stars FC.
He made five changes from the team that had lost last week with Mathias Muwanga starting in goal ahead of Edward Kasibante.
Farouk Katongole replaced Adewale Bojo, Samuel Kayongo who wore the captain’s armband on the day came in for Kizito Ryan while Gaddafi Kacancu and Ben Ocen started ahead of Kevin Obua and Reagan Male.
Umar Kasumba opened the scores in the 18th minute flicking home from Daniel Jakony’s headed pass.
Mbarara City thereafter had chances to level matters but could not find the back of the net.
In the 52nd minute, goalkeeper Muwanga was called into action to deny the visitors, running off the goal line to clear the ball away.
Police too got another chance seven minutes later but Dennis Kalanzi missed from close range when Kasumba teed him up.
It was Gaddafi Kacancu who doubled the lead in the 79th minute against his former paymasters.
The win lifts Police FC to 12th place on 26 points, three ahead of Mbarara City FC who are just a position below the Cops.
