Express FC claimed a narrow but vital 1-0 win over Mbale Heroes in a Uganda Premier League clash held at the Mbale Municipal Stadium on Wednesday.
Kagawa Ssenoga was the hero of the day, netting the decisive goal in the 22nd minute to secure all three points for the Red Eagles.
His well-taken strike gave Express the lead and proved to be the difference in a closely contested match.
However, the visitors were dealt an early setback when midfielder Emmanuel Wasswa was forced off with a hamstring injury just 10 minutes into the game.
Despite the injury blow, Express maintained control for most of the first half but failed to extend their lead before the break.
After the interval, Mbale Heroes pushed forward in search of an equalizer, mounting sustained pressure on the Express defence.
The Red Eagles remained resolute at the back, standing firm to preserve their slim advantage.
The result lifts Express to ninth on the league table, while Mbale Heroes remain rooted at the bottom with just 10 points.
