The French week 2025 celebrations have been officially launched at the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) board room on Tuesday, 30th April.

Uganda’s Ambassador to France, Spain and Portugal H.E Doreen Ruth Amule; Jean-Philippe Bittencourt, Vice President of French Chamber of Commerce Uganda (FCCU), the FCCU general manager and a number of stakeholders graced this launch.

This year’s French Week will have three events encompassing business, innovation and culture.

This will commence with a networking with a golf tournament on Sunday 11th May 2025 at the par-72 Uganda Golf Union (UGU).

About 150 guests from the various companies will play in the golf tournament, aimed at fostering networking.

On Wednesday, 14th May 2025, there will be a business forum enshrined along the theme; Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization.

Some of the discussion topics will be Artificial intelligence for business growth, opportunities and challenges, regulatory frameworks and ethical Artificial intelligence.

There will be representation from the European Union, Uganda’s ministry of ICT, Uganda Communications Commission and Uganda Investment Authority, banks, telecoms as well as French companies like TotalEnergies and Rubis, among others.

The final event will be on Saturday, 17th May 2025 with the culture and gastronomy dinner blending the French and Uganda cuisines to celebrate the rich culinary traditions of these two countries.

The attendees will have the opportunity to indulge in a diverse array of gastronomic delights aimed at fostering cultural exchange and appreciation, highlighting the shared passion for food, the role it plays in connecting people across the borders.

Jean-Philippe Bittencourt, Vice President of FCCU

Bittencourt, the Vice President of French Chamber of Commerce Uganda offered a heartfelt thank you to all partners and supporters.

He acknowledged the vital role played by the French Embassy, UIA, MTN MoMo, Ecobank, TotalEnergies, and other key stakeholders in bringing this vision to life.

Bittencourt hinted about the history of the French Chamber of Commerce Uganda from a mere business club to now a full chamber with 73 members representing the different industries and sectors of Uganda.

“We started merely a business club to now the French Chamber of Commerce Uganda in 2024. We have 73 members and targeting more. These have been developing different activities.” Bittencourt remarked.

Ambassador Amule revelled in the value of such partnerships and collaborations.

We value creating synergies between Uganda and France by creating earnest partnerships. France has a legacy of building for generations which Uganda ought to emulate. The French people love organic foods which is a good opportunity to exploit about. The other area is tourism and of course learning the French language to ease communication.
