- UCU Canons 72 – 82 Namuwongo Blazers
Namuwongo Blazers secured a hard-fought 82-72 victory over the UCU Canons in the National Basketball League at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday.
With this massive win, the Blazers completed the first round with a perfect record of 11 victories in as many games.
Point guard Flore Dushime’s floating jump shot left the Canons trailing by five points at the end of the first quarter.
Despite the Canons’ efforts in the second quarter, the Namuwongo Blazers maintained a six-point lead heading into halftime.
The Canons were held to only 10 points in the third quarter as the Blazers extended their lead to 10 points going into the final period.
Dushime levelled the score at 72-72 with just two minutes left on the clock. However, from that moment on, the Blazers’ experience shone through, allowing them to secure a 10-point victory.
Moses Mugisha (14 points), Joel Lukoji (14 points), Tonny Drileba (11 points), Peter Obleng (11 points), Arthur Wanyoto (10 points), and Jimmy Enabu (10 points) led the charge for the Blazers.
Only Ibanda Lwabaga (18 points) and Flore Dushime (14 points) reached double digits in scoring for the Canons.
