The draws for the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 have been conducted with the 16 qualified teams, including Uganda, drawn into four groups.

Uganda has been drawn into Group D alongside heavyweights Senegal, who finished third in the 2021 edition of AfroBasket but have won the tournament on five occasions, Mali, and Zone V rivals and five-time winners Egypt.

Defending champions and three-time winners Tunisia were drawn into Group C alongside Madagascar, 2015 winners Nigeria, and Cameroon.

Record winners and hosts Angola are in Group C alongside contenders for this year’s title contenders South Sudan, Guinea and Libya.

Last year’s finalists, Ivory Coast, are in Group A with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cape Verde and Rwanda.

The quadrennial event will be hosted in the capital Luanda and the southwestern city of Namibe in Angola. The group phase of the tournament will be played in Namibe with the Final Phase taking place in Luanda.

In Namibe, games will take place at the 3,500-capacity Pavilhão Multiusos Welwitschia Mirabilis, while Kilamba Arena, a 12,700-seater, will host the games in Luanda.

Competition System

The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 24.

Group Phase: Each team will play the other three teams in their group in a round-robin format, with a first to fourth place finish at the end of each round. The phase will be played from August 12-17.

Final Phase: This round of the tournament begins with qualifying for the Quarterfinals on August 18-19, with the winners advancing to the Last Eight.

  • Quarterfinals: This round of the competition will take place from August 20-21.
  • Semifinals: This phase of the tournament will be held on 23 August 2025.
  • 3rd Place Playoff: This game will take place on the final day of the tournament (August 24).
  • Final: The 2025 AfroBasket Final will be played on 24 August 2025.

  • A: Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Rwanda
  • B: Tunisia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Cameroon
  • C: Angola, South Sudan, Guinea, Libya
  • D: Senegal, Mali, Egypt, Uganda
