Thousands of spectators thronged the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba in Rubaga division, Kampala to witness the official opening of the facility, one of the latest in the country’s sporting spheres.

On the day, Vipers Sports Club overcame archrivals Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) 2-0 during the grand finale of the 2024-2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup.

A goal in either half from defender Livingstone Mulondo and forward Yunus Junior Sentamu won the evening for the Venoms who claimed their second domestic double triumph in the league and FA Cup.

Mulondo set the game rolling with a 5th minute goal off a well curled in corner kick by star boy, Allan Okello.

The goal came against the run of play following KCCA’s impressive start into the game that was played both on natural light and later floodlights.

KCCA forward Emmanuel Anyama got close to bringing the game level but he shot wide inside the goal area in the 39th minute.

James Mubezi (KCCA), Vipers’ captain Milton Karisa and Derrick Ndahiiro got cautioned in the opening stanza for dangerous fouls.

At the start of the second half, KCCA rested defender Musitafa Mujjuzi for midfielder Joel Sserunjogi.

Hitman Sentamu volleyed home the second goal after a miskick by defender Peter Magambo in the 55th minute.

On the hour mark, KCCA called for a double change; Anyama and Brazilian Gabriel paving way for Derrick Nsibambi and Julius Poloto respectively.

Poloto got involved in a series of set pieces as KCCA pushed to pull a goal into the game.

Abdul-Karim Watambala missed target from 35 yards with a venomous shot as the Kitende based entity sought for a killer in the 69th minute.

KCCA rested a largely impressive Arafat Usama for Etienne Katenga with 20 minutes to play.

With a quarter an hour to play, KCCA introduced Umar Lutalo for Ashraf Mugume.

Lutalo had a shot off target moments after being introduced.

Vipers introduced Moses Waiswa for Allan Okello who had a quiet second stanza with 10 minutes to play.

Poloto continued with his set piece show on the evening but his grounder was saved by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu in the 82nd minute.

Vipers introduced Congolese forward Gusto Mulongo for Yunus Sentamu in the 85th minute with the Congolese shooting on target from 40 yards off his first touch.

Nicholas Wadada, Vipers’ ageless right back thrilled the crowd with his wall pass involvement before he was fouled.

Wadada was later rested for Grant Matisko inside the extra three added minutes before the final whistle from FIFA Referee Shamirah Nabadda.

Vipers has now won their second domestic double after the 2022-2023 season.

This is the fourth Uganda Cup victory following triumphs in 2015-16, 2019-2020 and 2022-2023 seasons.

As proud sponsors of both the Stanbic Uganda Cup and Vipers Sports Club, today’s victory represents everything we stand for – excellence at all levels of the game. While we celebrate Vipers’ achievement, we are equally proud to support a tournament that elevates Ugandan football as a whole.
