Shamira Nalugya, midfielder for the Crested Cranes and Kampala Queens, is feeling confident ahead of the opening match of the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship.

The Crested Cranes will face off against Burundi in the championship opener on Thursday, June 12, at 4 PM.

After a training session at the Kinondoni Municipal Council, Nalugya spoke to the press, expressing her confidence in the team’s readiness to showcase their skills.

“We have completed today’s training session, and all players are in good shape,” Nalugya stated.

“We are ready to play Burundi in the opening game. We want to start the campaign on a strong note. We have faced Burundi before, and I’m sure we know something about them.”

The Crested Cranes previously lifted the CECAFA title after defeating Burundi with a score of 3-1, a remarkable journey that culminated in a decisive victory at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

Nalugya also mentioned that the team has undergone several changes, but she remains confident in her teammates. “The mood and attitude are high,” she noted.

“While there have been many changes, I am sure that whoever gets the opportunity will give their best to ensure we win the game.”
