Egypt will host this inaugural 2025 IFAF African Flag Football Championships – AFRICA FLAG 2025 between 20th and 22nd June in Cairo, welcoming elite men’s and women’s national teams from across Africa for the first time at an IFAF Continental Championships.

All boxes are being ticked as the first edition of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) African Flag Football Championship due in Egypt gets closer.
For Uganda, one of the confirmed countries set to take part, preparations are so far promising.
The team’s latest training session was held at the Kyambogo University Cricket Oval on Sunday morning.


“The training has been well so far with lots of intense practice in the different departments of the game” Denis Oduke, a wide receiver player remarks.

“Competing at such a tournament will give us more exposure to the game and definitely, we shall not remain the same” he adds.

Steven George Okeng, the president for the American Football Federation of Uganda (AFFU) is humbled by the response of players throughout the sessions.
“The players have been excellent in each and every session held. We travel to Egypt with high expectations” Okeng notes.
Okeng lauds the different stakeholders as African American Football Mission, our medical partners FHNS, New Orleans Saints professional Tanoh Kpassagnon, the National Council of Sports and the Government of Uganda in general.

“The American Football Federation of Uganda is our good partner and we would love to appreciate them for the professional journey moved along with them thus far. We remain committed to providing the best safety and health services to the players” Isaac Gabriel Otuk, founder and CEO of FHNS hints.

As participation in flag football continues to grow rapidly throughout the continent, this inaugural event offers a pathway to qualification for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships and represents a significant milestone on the journey towards flag football’s historic Olympic debut at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
Team Uganda’s official flag off is this Tuesday with the expected departure to Egypt on Thursday,19th June 2025.
