Overview:

Arua Hill (29), Kigezi Home Boyz (30), Busoga United (30), Kaaro Karungi (31) and MYDA (32) are all involved in this fierce battle to avoid relegation.

“There’s just this empty place inside of me that only he can fill…” goes a line in a song ‘Torn Between Two Lovers’, written by Peter Yarrow and Phillip Jarrell.

This famous song was recorded by 77-year-old American singer Mary MacGregor as far back as 1976.

The song stresses the dangers of sharing love; as “it breaks all the rules”.

The message embedded in this song has been widely spread across the globe over the years.

To date, it comes back to play as the 2024-2025 FUFA Big League (Uganda’s second-tier football league) climaxes dramatically.

Five clubs are fighting for three slots in the Uganda Premier League going into the final matchday on Saturday, 21st June 2025.

Calvary, Buhimba United Saints, Gaddafi, Blacks Power and Paidha Black Angels all have realistic chances of making it to the table of men.

With 49 points apiece, Calvary and Buhimba United Saints are the top two.

Gaddafi closely follows with 47 points while Blacks Power and Paidha Black Angels each have 46 points.

Such is the competitiveness of the FUFA Big League at the summit with one game to play per club.

In the true spirit of MacGregor’s song, you cannot share the love for all these five clubs, but rather firmly stick to where your heart is.

When the 2024-2025 Uganda Premier League season officially climaxed, three clubs were demoted – Wakiso Giants, Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes.

The three promoted clubs from the second division will fill up the void left by Wakiso Giants, Solitlo Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes.

Demotion battle:

The struggle to avoid being demoted from the FUFA Big League also rages on.

With Booma already relegated, there are also five clubs directly involved in the relegation battles for the three slots.

Arua Hill (29), Kigezi Home Boyz (30), Busoga United (30), Kaaro Karungi (31) and MYDA (32) are all involved in this fierce battle.

Which are the final fixtures on the menu?

Saturday, 21st June 2025 is the final day of the 2024-2025 FUFA Big League.

There are seven mouth-watering games lined up; spread across the different corners of the country.

Calvary entertains Paidha Black Angels at the Midigo playground in Yumbe district during this epic West Nile derby.

With 49 points, Calvary only needs a point from this fixture to be assured of promotion.

But, on the other hand, Paidha Black Angels seek three points to have realistic chances of qualification.

In Kiwenda at the Bartham city playground, Kiyinda Boys host Buhimba United Saints.

Kiyinda Boys have 36 points and will virtually be playing for pride to end the season on a high note and frustrate the visitors who only need a point to qualify.

Blacks Power will host Busoga United (30 points) in Lira city.

At the Mbale City stadium, Kataka (36 points) will square up against Gaddafi (47 points).

Gaddafi only wishes for maximum points to be assured of a return to the Uganda Premier League.

“It is the end that always justifies the means. We need to complete the season on a high note and qualify,” Robert Mukasa, head coach of Gaddafi, remarked

Other games:

Arua Hill, currently 14th with 29 points, takes on already relegated Booma at the Masindi stadium.

In Ntungamo at the Kyamate stadium, Kaaro Karungi (31 points) will clash against Ntugasaze (36 points).

One interesting contest shall be in Kabale when the home side Kigezi Home Boyz (30 points) will play host to MYDA (32 points) at the Kigezi Home Boyz Al Stadium.

A new trophy will be awarded to the newly crowned champion on 21st June 2025.

Will it be tears or joy?
