Rezlife Saints shocked UCU Canons, claiming a 62-54 win in the National Basketball League on Wednesday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
While Michael Otieno led the offensive charge for the Saints with a game-high 24 points, it was their defense, especially the interior, that stood out.
Moses Okwera, the man in charge of Rezlife, set out his team to play an aggressive man-to-man defense for large spells of the game and the Canons were uncomfortable throughout the forty minutes.
Mabor Rin Tueny and Deo Akena took turns in guarding UCU’s go-to player in the post, Joel Kayira, and they were largely successful against the rising Silverbacks center. Mobor found balance on both ends of the ball as he glided through the paint for an efficient 12 points.
From the opening quarter that ended all square at 14, it was clear the game would be a real dogfight, and so it was the rest of the game with the Saints edging the periods that followed 13-12, 18-15 and 17-14.
It was an important win for Rezlife who started a tough run of fixtures for ten days that will see them face Nam Blazers, Kampala Rockets, JT Jaguars and City Oilers.
Meanwhile, UCU Canons return to action on Friday night against Oilers who are looking to turn their season around after an underwhelming first round of the league.
