Yunus Sentamu celebrates a goal for Vipers

A stellar performance at the apex of the 2024-2025 season has rewarded forward Yunus Junior Sentamu a slot on the preliminary squad for Uganda Cranes ahead of the forthcoming 2024 Chan championship in East Africa.

Sentamu had a meaningful contribution to the Vipers team as they lifted their second domestic double (Stanbic Uganda Cup and Uganda Premier League titles).

With 30 caps on his nametag and 5 goals scored, Sentamu who had a break-through moment at the CHAN 2014 tournament in South Africa brings experience to the team.

Christened as “Manucho”, Sentamu has played in Democratic Republic of Congo (AS Vita), Tunisia (CS Sfaxien), Finland (Ilves) and Albania (Tirana) before returning to the parent side, Vipers.

Co-coaches Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso were entrusted with the job for the Uganda Cranes team at Chan 2024.

The provisional squad has 41 players with APR bound Ronald Ssekiganda also included on the team that has 5 goalkeepers, 13 defenders, 12 midfielders and 11 forwards.

Masaka Sunshine forward James Bogere, a striker for the Uganda U-17 national team is also part of the team.

Workaholic Express captain Alex Emmanuel Wasswa is also on the cast of midfielders with the sensational NEC talisman Enock Ssebagala, Allan Okello, Abdul-Karim Watambala, Reagan Mpande, Saidi Mayanja, among others.

The Uganda Premier League clubs that have contributed the players include Vipers, Sports Club Villa, KCCA, BUL, NEC, URA, Kitara and Express.

Training commences on Monday, 23rd June 2025.

Tanzania will host the official opening match of the championship on 2nd August 2025.

Kenya will play-host to the final on 30th August 2025 whilst Uganda has been granted the third-place play-off match.
