Namuwongo Blazers suffered a second straight defeat, losing 65-60 to Kampala Rockets on Sunday evening.

The Blazers (16-2) started the game slowly with the Rockets establishing an early double-digit lead and the table leaders had all the work to do the rest of the game.

Shooting guard Brian Opiyo set the tone for the Rockets with a hot hand from deep while the Congolese front court trio of Puati Ozias Kikomba (14 rebounds), Christian Ndibu (13 rebounds) and Juf Mpiya played with active hands and cleaned the glass.

The fast start had the Rockets leading 22-15 after the opening ten minutes and 42-27 and halftime.

The Blazers fought back in the third quarter with a bit of pressure defence anchored by Joel Lukoji, dragging the deficit into a single digit, but offense was absent all evening, especially in halfcourt.

A 10-1 Blazers run to start the fourth quarter saw the side take a 52-51 lead inside 3 minutes but a couple of twos from Ndibu and Opiyo had the Rockets back up in the lead.

Lukoji would later tie the game at 57 from 3-point land and give his side the lead (60-59) with just over 3 minutes to play but went ice cold the rest of the game as the Rockets sealed the win from the line.

Opiyo finished with a game-high 22 points, Gideon Kasasa added 14 while Mpiya chipped in with 10.

Only Innocent Ochera (13) and Tony Drileba (10) reached double figures for the Blazers who shot a pathetic 23-of-73 from the floor and 4-of-30 from outside the arc.
