Kampala Rockets secured a well-deserved 72-59 victory against UCU Canons in the National Basketball League encounter at Abja Park, Naalya on Wednesday.
It was the first loss for the Canons in four games. They had earlier secured victories against JKL Dolphins, KIU Titans and Namuwongo Blazers.
Despite a decent show in the previous three games, the Mukono-based side struggled to find rhythm against a much-improved Kampala Rockets side.
Flore Dushime’s long shot concluded the first quarter as they trailed by a point (20-19) at the end of the period.
However, the Rockets flew away in the second quarter after opening a 16-point (43-27) lead going into the long break.
Juf Mpiya’s driving layup capped the third quarter as the Kampala Rockets kept in the driving seat with a 13-point (52-39) lead at the end of the period.
Despite the fight from the Canons, Rockets ran away with a 13-point victory on the day.
Mpiya (17 points) and Kevin Kasobya (12 points) were instrumental in the Rockets’ victory scoring in double digits.
On the other hand, Joel Kayira turned with a monster performance dropping 20 points and pulling down 21 rebounds in a double-double.
