The National 7s captain, Peace Lekuru has officially joined York Valkyrie Rugby Club, marking her transition from Rugby Union to Rugby League.

The former Avengers Rugby Football Club stalwart starting her Rugby League career in Entebbe, and inspired the Entebbe Baleen to the most recent Rugby League championship title, in a 72 – 6 convincing victory over the Insomniacs Rugby League Club. 

Lekuru now becomes the first Ugandan international rugby player to play at the highest level of rugby, both Union and League.

Her new club, York Valkyrie, are two-time champions of the Womens Super League, the top flight of women’s rugby league in England. She joins a host of local English and international talents at the club

The York Valkyrie Rugby League Football Club shall continue their title defense this 13th of July, when they host the Leigh Leopards Women at the York Community stadium. With the transfer deadline day in the Women’s Super League set to expire on 31st August 2025, this means that Lekuru is eligible to play for her new club as early as next week.
