Overview:
Germany guru Martin Helmut is the main programme coordinator working alongside Jimmy Remie Orotin, the local expert who holds a IHF A License and an IHF Multiplier certificate.
In a bid to improve the quality of Handball coaching in schools, Uganda Handball Federation (UHF) with the world’s mother body, International Handball Federation (IHF) has organized a schools’ coaching programme.
This programme aims to provide new coaching information, improve the coaching of Handball in schools and qualify some of the coaches in the IHF coaching education system with the “D” License.


This extensive IHF training programme will be held in three different districts of Lira, Soroti and Tororo.
German expert Martin Helmut is the course lecturer working alongside Jimmy Remie Orotin, the local expert who holds a IHF A License and an IHF Multiplier certificate.

Helmut had also visited Uganda in 2019 when he conducted a similar course in central Uganda.
Course he conducted in 2019 that was held in Central Uganda at the time.


The training in Lira is being conducted at the Lira Army primary school, residing at the Margherita Palace Hotel.
A total of 17 teachers and coaches reported for the course in Lira.
The group will complete the training in Lira on the 10th July 2025 before crossing to Soroti and finally in Tororo where the USSSA Ball Games 2 shall take center stage with Handball inclusive.
Topics:
Some of the topics being handled include curriculum for novice and beginner level, talent selection, basic refereeing skills, organization of events in schools (festivals, tournaments, leagues), basic refereeing skills, warm up, lead up and small sided games to improve basic attacking, new IHF handball at school materials, IHF education centre and IHF handball at school website, history and evolution of the game, types of handball, breaking down the game, basic terminology and symbols, light version of mini handball rules, IHF handball at school philosophy, methodology and approach of teaching handball, basic tactical role and individual technical-tactical skills, light version of mini handball rules, among others.
