Florent Ibenge has vowed to destabilize the dominance of Simba and Young Africans after signing as the new head coach of Azam FC.

The experienced DR Congo tactician joins the Bakhresa family backed club from Sudan’s Al Hilal and brings with him a wealth of experience having managed several other African clubs and the DR Congo national team.

“I am delighted to join Azam FC – a club with ambition and great potential,” said Ibenge, a 2016 CHAN winner with DR Congo’s local Leopards.

“Yes, we know Simba and Young African are big clubs with strong teams but we also quality and the determination to compete. I am here to win and take this club to where it belongs,” he added.

The former RS Berkane coach who won the Caf Confederation Cup with the Moroccan side is aware of the competition in Tanzania where Simba and Young are strong but says he is not at Azam for vacation but work.

“Simba played in the final of the Caf Confederation Cup while Young swept all domestic trophies last season. That tells you how competitive this league is. We must work hard, stay focused and rise to the challenge. I didn’t come here for vacation; I came to fight for success”

Ibenge will be tasked to lead Azam to the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup where they are part of the representatives of Tanzania.

Azam haven’t won any trophy since the 2018/19 Federation Cup and have since fallen behind both giants Simba and Young Africans.

The appointment of Ibenge who won the league with Al Hilal, led AS Vita to the Champions League final and consistently played in the group stages of the Interclub continental competitions is a big message of revival at Azam.
