The National Women’s Basketball team, the Gazelles, fell to Egypt 87-85 in a practice match loss at Mostapha Sports Hall, Cairo.

The Gazelles began their three-game practice series ahead of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket with a match against Egypt.

Egypt led by five points (19-13) at the end of a closely contested quarter. The Gazelles improved their game, narrowing the deficit to three points (35-32) by halftime.

Coming from the locker rooms, the hosts extended their lead to 11 points to further cement their place in the driving seat.

Despite a fight from the Gazelles, a clutch long shot beyond the arc gave the hosts a two-point sweet victory.

Jane Asinde led the troops, scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Mellisa Akullu (20 points), Hope Akello (17 points) and Perus Nyamwenge (11 points) contributed in double digits.

Gazelles will regroup and prepare for the two remaining practice games against Rwanda and Cameroon.

Following the practice games, Gazelles will embark on training camp in Alexandria from July 15th to 24th, focusing on tactical reinforcement and team chemistry.
