Ugandans will watch the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) at very affordable prices, the Local Organising Committee has promised.

This was revealed by Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, the Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Committee of the LoC, during a media briefing held at Lugogo on Monday.

“CAF has advised that we make ticket prices affordable for everyone,” he started. “At the moment, we were advised to consider a 1 $, 2 $ and 3 $ ticketing model for the ordinary, VIP and VVIP and each country will depend on that to price tickets,” he added before revealing the prices will be made public by end of next week.

Mugimba, flanked by Mr. Mark Namanya, PR and Communications Manager at the CHAN/AFCON Secretariat; Mr. Rodgers Mulindwa, Vice Chairman of the LoC Communications Committee and Mr. William Fredrick Blick, Ex Officio Member of the LoC also revealed that some delays is a result of Caf procurement procedures.

“For starters, this is a Caf tournament and we are following the Caf procurement procedures and bids for ticketing firms, advertising and additional transport and before the start of the competition, we shall have sorted everything for the general public to know what is going on.”

Mugimba praised government for payment of the commitment fee for both CHAN ($13 million) and AFCON 2027 ($30 million) as well as $750,000 for LED screens for Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, the host stadium for the competition in Uganda.

Meanwhile, Mugimba also revealed that seven hotels have been booked for accommodating the teams and officials, including Kampala Serena Hotel, Four Points Sheraton, Hilton Hotel, Skyz Hotel Naguru and Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.

For inland transport, already 100 vehicles used during the recently concluded NAM conference, although more are still needed with four hospitals Mulago, Victoria University, Kisubi, Nakasero Hospital and Entebbe.

In order to make Ugandans feel part of the moment, the CHAN trophy will make a tour into some regions although non was specified by Mugimba who called on everyone to be part.

“We want every Ugandan to feel part of this moment. CHAN 2024 is not just about football — it’s about showcasing who we are as a nation.”

There will also be a single Pamoja Visa for accredited journalists and probably fans to ensure they enjoy the moment without much hustle.
