The Uganda Women’s Basketball Team, Gazelles, have secured a 69-62 victory in the practice game at HM Arena, Cairo, on Tuesday evening.

The Gazelles finally got their maiden victory in the three warm-up games played before embarking on the training camp.

Coming into the game, Gazelles had fallen to Egypt and Rwanda, but they decided to put an end to the losing streak.

Gazelles opened a nine-point lead (26-17) at the end of the opening period.

Cameroon greatly improved on their defence as they narrowed down the deficit to six points (42-36) into the halftime time break.

Coming from the locker rooms, Gazelles struggled to find rhythm as Cameroon forced them into several turnovers. But Gazelles held onto a six-point (56-48) lead at the end of the third quarter.

Despite Cameroon’s strong fight in the final quarter, Uganda sailed away with a seven-point victory on the day.

Once again, Jane Asinde led her troops, scoring 26 points and pulling down 18 rebounds.

In the same spirit, Mellisa Akullo (13 points) and Hope Akello (11 points) also contributed for Gazelles in double digits.
