Overview:

The Kyambogo University playground is one of the venues ear-marked for use in the belated CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 tournaments for training purposes.

The first phase on the works of the Kyambogo University playgrounds has been completed by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade.

This phase entailed the grading of the facility, perimeter fencing, dressing rooms, drainage and water system, power generator and lavatories with the installation of floodlights.

These works followed a formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kyambogo University and National Council of Sports (NCS) on behalf of the Government of Uganda on 21st May 2024.

The second phase will have the VIP stand, medical room, administrative offices, tennis courts and basketball courts.

The entire project is estimated to cost Ug.Shs 14.3 billion upon completion.

The Kyambogo University playground is one of the venues ear-marked for use in the belated CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 tournaments for training purposes.

Others within Kampala city include Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium, FUFA Kadiba stadium and the Mandela National Stadium outside training playground.

The Makerere University playground will be ready for use by the time AFCON 2027 tournament comes knocking.

CHAN 2024 will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda between 2nd to 30th August 2025 for 19 countries.

This will be a precursor tournament to AFCON 2027 to be co-hosted by the same three East African countries.

At CHAN 2024, Uganda is pooled in group C alongside Guinea, Algeria and Niger.
