The Blackrock College Rugby Football Club have confirmed their tour of Uganda this August.

The Dublin-based rugby club, which was founded in 1882, will be in Uganda for over a week, during which they will engage in sporting, community outreach and tourism activities.

First up, Rock, as they are fondly referred to at home, will face the Uganda All Stars on Saturday, 16th August 2025, at Kyadondo Rugby Club before heading to the East.

In eastern Uganda, they shall visit the Spire School for the Blind and also initiate a Prisons Rugby Project at Kirinya Prison in Jinja on the 18th of August. The following day, they will conduct coaching clinics at several schools within Kakira.

After a personal day of tourism and fun activities, the Blackrock contingent shall hold a Legacy Day on Thursday, August 21st, in Kakira, where the team will leave a lasting impact on the community.

The Blackrock club President, Mich Drawn, has emphasised the club’s desire to engage the community. “A key part of our mission is giving back; we’re partnering with Irish charities to run training sessions in local schools, donating gear to keep the next gen buzzing about rugby, and visiting a Ugandan prison to share hope and camaraderie with the inmates,” he notes.

This tour comes after 54 years since the Rock toured Uganda and East Africa at large, and this means a lot for the club president.

“We’re electrified about our Club’s August tour to Uganda – a bold venture that’s years in the making! This trip is a reunion of sorts, revisiting East Africa for the first time since 1971, a journey that holds treasured memories for many of our members,” Drawn remarks.

To achieve this tour, the Irish club has received invaluable support from sponsors, donors and partners, a blessing that President Drawn doesn’t take for granted in an endeavour he has described as more than just a trip, but “a testament to the power of community and rugby’s universal language.”

The tour will conclude with a fun-filled Fan Rugby 7s event held in Kakira on Friday, 22nd August 2025.

Tickets for the Irish Blackrock Vs Uganda All Stars are available at only 10,000 Uganda Shillings for ordinary, 50,000 Shs and 100,000 Shs for VIP and VVIP tickets respectively.
