Pearl of Africa Series | Uganda A v Namibia | Match Summary

  • Uganda A: 127/8
  • Namibia A: 124/7
  • Uganda A won by 3 runs

Uganda A was able to avenge its defeat to their counterparts Namibia A in their second meeting in the Pearl of Africa Series.

The first-round match between the two sides was marginally won by the visitors by four runs, and this time, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat.

Anas Baig (45) at the top of the order was the highest run scorer for the hosts and only some low-order resistance from Calvin Watuwa (21) helped push the score to a respectable 127/8 in their 20 overs.

The regular loss of wickets due to some poor shot selection and poor running between the wickets from the batters made the difference between a big score and a modest total.

In the run chase, the top for Namibia A was cleaned up quickly by the opening bowling pair of Ivan Baidhu and Innocent Mwebaze, especially the big wicket of Captain Jan Balt, who departed for nothing.

Simon Shikongo (23) and Liam Basson (25) chipped away at the total but Kenneth Waiswa (3/28) came up clutch with ball in hand to get rid of the big wickets and put a brake on the chase, closing out the win for the Uganda A side.

It was the second loss for the Namibia A side in the Pearl of Africa Series and a consolation win for the hosts, Uganda A.

The games between the two sides have also been a great opportunity for some players to put their hands up, with Simon Ssesazi, Pascal Murungi and Calvin Watuwa making a good impression.

The tournament takes a break tomorrow, with the final game days starting on Friday to Sunday.
