After the indefinite cancellation of the Central Uganda Rugby 7s competition, the tournament had remained in limbo for about a month until clubs got communication from the Central Uganda Rugby Association on its commencement.
The nine-team tournament for the men features teams like Warriors, Impis and Victoria Sharks who shall be going up against seasoned contenders like Kyambogo, Kisubi Pacers and Entebbe Jaguars to see who books the two slots to the National Rugby 7s qualifying tournament to be played at a later stage.
Four women’s teams are also set to compete with each other, with newcomers the Golden Badgers going up against the Entebbe Swans and 15s premiership sides, Panthers and Ewes. All these sides shall be hoping to ultimately replace whichever team gets relegated from the 2025 National 7s series.
The Central 7s were originally meant to start on the 21st of June, before the Rugby Africa Cup, but now with only a week left to the start of the National 7s Series, the Central Uganda Rugby Association (CURA) has fought tooth and nail to see that the central teams have a test of action before the Coronation 7s of 2nd and 3rd August.
“Teams have not had playing time and we want to offer this platform for players to show off their skills since matches are minimal in CURA. We also need to have the circuit to determine which teams will act as invitational teams for the first Circuit of the Nile Special 7s,” noted Adam Kabalega.
Kabalega is the current treasurer of the Central Uganda Rugby Association and he is also the acting Chairman, following the resignation of Charles Senteza last month.
The tournament is going to be played at Kyadondo Rugby Club this Sunday, 27th August 2025, starting at 8AM.
