Egypt secured a well-deserved 70-54 victory against Angola in the Afrobasket encounter at Palais des Sports Arena on Sunday.

Egypt came into the game after a painful 75-63 loss to the tournament hosts, Ivory Coast, in front of a loud crowd.

Egypt opened a two-point (16-14) lead at the end of the opening period before taking a 12-point (35-23) lead at the halftime break.

Alia Elshabrawy’s long shot beyond the arc concluded the third period as Egypt created a 21-point (55-34) lead going into the final quarter.

Despite the strong fight from the final quarter, Egypt secured a 16-point (70-54) victory on the day.

Egypt employed an aggressive defence with a focus on fast break in the offensive drive of the game, leaving Angola in a worrying state.

Speaking to the media, Egypt centre Raneem Elgedawy revealed that they came into the game so focused on turning around their fortunes.

“We came in really focused. We stuck to our game plan and executed it well,” she stated.

“Angola is a great team. We have played them a few times before, but we won this game because we needed to. We put the loss against Ivory Coast behind and came out with energy,” she added
