By now, every team is well aware of their opponents this weekend, and at what stage of Day One of the Kabaka Coronation 7s they get to play them.
Both newcomers to rugby in the central region, Walukuba Titans and Gulu City Falcons, shall have to contend with seasoned sides in the 7s series, even though sides like the Ewes and Warriors in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively, are technically in a lower tier.
Pool B, the fans’ favourite, has last year’s runners-up, the Black Pirates, former 7s champions the Jinja Hippos, a stubborn Elgon Wolves full of hard runners, and a stacked Victoria Sharks that has players who have played at this level before. This pool has been cited as the group of death, with each team capable of causing damage to the other.
Whereas Pool A and Pool C may look pretty straightforward, the element of surprise that the Kampani Eagles and Gulu City Falcons bring to those respective groups can not be ignored.
In Pool D, KOBs seem to have already booked their ticket to the quarterfinal, but we cannot rule out an upset from Mongers, Rams, or even Impis. Match-ups between the latter 3 teams are going to be quite interesting, as all three teams seem to play a similar game.
In the women’s category, Pool B once again promises some juicy fixtures, especially between the Black Pearls and Thunderbirds, while the game between the Walukuba Titans and Ewes presents an even contest. Defending champions, the Avengers from Entebbe, are going into the 7s season without their skipper Peace Lekuru who moved to Rugby League in England.
The Kabaka Coronation Rugby 7s shall take place this Saturday and Sunday, 2nd and 3rd August, 2025, at Kyadondo Rugby Club starting at 8 a.m. on both days.
