Mali are through to the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after powering past Mozambique in the quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon.

The Malians proved too strong for their opponents right from tip-off, dominating all areas of the game played at Palais des Sports de Treichville.

A 23-11 first quarter in their favour set the tone for the rest of the game with Djeneba N’Diaye Sika Kone and Alima Dembele dominating.

Mozambique nearly matched Mali offensively in the second quarter but their defence could not contain the Malians, whether in the halfcourt on transition, who shot 52% from the field.

Mozambique came to within 11 points in the third quarter but that was the closest they did as Mali pulled away through Sira Thienou who scored an efficient 13 points off the bench in 19 minutes.

N’Diaye (18 points), Kone (12 points & 12 rebounds) and Dembele (14 points) also scored in double digits for Mali.

Stefania Chiziane (17 points) and Leia Dongue (12 points), and Ingvild Mucauro (10 points) scored in double digits for Mozambique.

Mali will face South Sudan in the semifinals on Saturday, while Mozambique will battle Uganda in the 5-8 classification game on Friday.
