In what will be a repeat of the 2023 Women’s AfroBasket finals, continental heavyweights Senegal and Nigeria to face off in the semifinals of the 2025 edition of Africa’s premier basketball competition on Saturday.

To set up the match-up, Senegal came from down to overcome a hard-fighting Côte d’Ivoire side backed by a loud home crowd, 66-60.

The 11-time champions and 2023 finalists fell behind 36-27 in the first half but battled their way back into the game in the third quarter that they held the hosts to just 7 points with some tough, aggressive defence that made it tough for Cote d’Ivore’s go to players Kariata Diaby and Laetitia Sahie.

Senegal’s point guard Cierra Dillard came in clutch in the second half, winning her battle with Ameryst Alston. Dillard finished with a game-high 16 points, 6 reboundsand 4 assists. Yacine Diop contributed 13 points and Lena Timera chipped in with 11 poinyts off the bench in another game that Ndioma Kane struggled.

Cote d’Ivoire’s losing effort was led by Diaby with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Amma Maria Flora Joyce Ouraga (13 points), Sahie (12), and Alston (11) also scored in double figures.

Meanwhile, defending champions Nigeria blew by Cameroon 83-47 in a one-sided encounter powered by the 2023 MVP Amy Okonkwa who netted a game-high 18 points to go with 6 boards.

Nichole Inabosi (12), Victoria Macaulay (12) and Elizabeth Bolgun (11) also scored in double figures for D’Tigeress, who had every player score atleast 2 points.
