The Silverbacks youngster and centre, Joel Kayira, says he is very excited and ready to do his best after receiving the call to the National Basketball team.
The Silverbacks are currently in South Africa and have kickstarted their preparation for the upcoming AfroBasket, which begins Tuesday, August 12.
Speaking after a training session, Kayira expressed confidence ahead of the great assignment at the continental stage.
“I thank God for the great achievement of being called to the national team,” he stated.
“This is a testament that young talents can be given a chance to showcase in the national team. So this will push more players to work hard and be ready for selection,” he added.
“We have done some training sessions but believe that the intensity will get better as the professionals join the group.”
Uganda were drawn in Group D alongside Senegal, Mali, and Egypt, though Kayira is confident that they will put up a strong show.
“With the group of players called, I am confident that we are going to do a great job because we have to represent the country in the best way,” he concluded.
