Mauritania recorded their first victory at CHAN 2024 on Saturday, 9th August 2025.
This followed a slim 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic (CAR) in Group B at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Ahmed El Moctar scored the all-important goal as early as the 9th minute.
El Moctar netted home off Abdallahi Mahmoud’s assist.
This is the first victory of Mauritania at CHAN 2024, which puts them on four points, second in group B after a loss, a victory and a draw.
Meanwhile, hosts Tanzania beat islanders Madagascar 2-1 in the second game on Saturday under floodlights.
Clement Mzize scored a brace as the tournament co-hosts, who made it three wins out of three games.
Mzize, a Young African’s forward, scored in the 13th and 20th minutes of the game.
Mika Razafimahatana got the consolation for the islanders in the 34th minute.
